  1. The Penal Times
    In years gone by Ireland was penetrated by the English in a cruel manner. The Irish could not hear Mass or receive the Sacraments except in an out of the way place where a hunted priest administered the Sacraments to them but vigilants had always to be at hand.
    The enemies were called Red Coats. There are many names denoting the places were Mass was heard and celebrated such as Carrigonaifrinn in Sonnagh.
    There was a chapel in J. Glynn’s in Ashfield and the priest of that place was killed while celebrating Holy Mass there, by one of the Perfse clan. When the priest was killed the same man robed himself with the priest's vestments and trotted around the chapel on his horse. The chapel was
