    and the cholera, which was the worst fever.
    The people used to die in the ditches, the hedges and on the road-side from starvation. The disease and fever used to spread throughout the people and thousands died one by one from it.
    The people used to work for fourpence a day, and used to have to go a long way at that. They would have to bring their own food, which consisted of a "cant" of oaten bread.
    The landlords used to evict the people, and knock their houses. Those who were able to go to American went, and the rest, died at home of the fever.
    The crops began to fail at first, and there were no potatoes for the people, and they had to eat black bread. They had no tea like nowadays.
