- I heard this story from Mrs. Minton, Aughrim Hill, Ballinasloe, aged about forty years.I heard a story about hidden treasure and the incident happened a great many years ago. There were people named Sammons. A voice came to them at night and told them to go to a place called Ballyhogan, and they would find a hidden treasure there. They had to bring a leg of mutton with them and leave it on the Mass path.This was to keep the cats that were supposed to be guarding the treasure eating, while the men were digging the treasure. When the people saw the cats eating the mutton, they started to work and found the treasure, and when they found it, they left all their tools after them and ran home with it.The track of the pot, which contained the treasure, was to be seen for a good while after the finding of it, and several people went to see the place, and also searched for more gold, but could get none. The place can be seen yet where the treasure was found. Ballyhogan, which is mentioned in this story, is in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
