a site to build a Church, he had to approach Lord Clancarty for it. The only site he would give is where the Chapel is now built. It was then a swampy marsh, and the reason he chose this site was to put the clergy to all the inconvenience and cost of piling this marsh to make a foundation to build upon. He also thought the Church would fall after a certain time, but we believe he had been told by Fr. Costello that that Church would reamin to see the ClanCarty out of Garbally.
