  1. 4. When it failed Lady Clancarty to keep the Nuns out of Ballinasloe, she ordered trees to be planted in front of the Convent. But no trees would grow except the poplar which grows up tall and straight with the result the Convent could be seen between each tree.
    One morning Lady Clancarty sent a messenger to the priest to stop ringing the Mass bell, that it was annoying her. But the priest sent the messenger back to her, saying that she would never hear it again, and she did not hear it again because she was deaf from that on.
