- Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and is the last day for getting married before Lent. Shrove Tuesday night is called pan-cake night because on that night pan-cakes are made with a button and ring put into them. Who ever gets the ring will be married before twelve months and who ever gets the button will be an old maid.
