  1. I got this account from my mother, aged 42 years of Lurgan, Aughrim, Ballinasloe.

    Little Xmas is New Years Eve and New Years Day. That is the last day of December, and the first day of January. On New Years Eve candles are lighted on each window until about twelve o clock to welcome in the New Year. There is also Midnight Mass on this night and bells are rung to ring out the old year and to ring in the New Year. There is not much of importance about New Years Day. It is a holiday of Obligation.
