the crop is dug with a spade or with a potato digger. The people of the house do the picking. When the potatoes are picked they are put into a pit. First they are covered with straw and then with clay. The names of the potatoes that grow best in this locality are; Up-to-date, Garden Phillers, Epicure, Kerrs Pink, Shamrocks, Golden Wonders, Flounders, Arronbanners and Irish Queens. The shamrock potato is the largest. Some of the potatoes were used for starch.
