    no pens or pencils to write with but they wrote on their copies with quills. There was no salary given to any of the teachers at that time but the children used to bring the teachers home on their turn for lodging and refreshments.
    Each morning the children used to bring two sods each and when the winter came the teacher and his pupils would have sufficient turf to keep a fire burning.
