  1. An old Story
Near Athenry is a place called Mountbrown. it is a large hill 600 feet above sea level. At the foot of the hill is a tunnel mouth. It runs along underground for a mile. It is honeycombed with caves, branching off the main tunnel. High-way robbers used it as a den.
The air in this tunnel is very foul. No one ever tried to go further than a few yards. If anyone tried to go in it is likely he will find weapons and money. It is not known whether the robbers died in the caves or in villages around. It is near the place where Browne was killed.
