  1. About a hundred years ago people had no way of getting light except to make candles themselves.
    Mary Burke, Cluide, Corrandulla CO. Galway, used to do so. She lived until she was fifty years and she died about seventy years ago.
    She used to get a piece of linen thread to use as a wick, and she used to melt fat and tallow of every kind in a big bucket. Then she put a coat of it around the thread and left it up to cool.
