  1. Signs of the weather from nature, such as hills, mountains, rivers, rocks, dust, noise and water.
    If hills that are far away look near it is the sign of rain.
    To see a haze on the mountains is the sign of fine weather.
    To see the dust rising up out of the ground is the sign of rain.
    To hear a noise a long distance off, such as the noise of a train or the noise of a river running is the sign of frost.
