- There was once a wood ranger and he lived in a wood, and he used to protect game there. He had a nice little house, and he had two dogs also. One night he came in and he was very tired. He sat down by the fire and took off his shoes and smoked his pipe. He felt one of his shoes on each hob and his pipes on the stool beside the fire.
