- There was a man who made brooms. He had a large family of six sons and one daughter. The only support he had was making brooms and selling them in the market. He had to go to the mountain to pull the heather. One day he took the eldest son with him to help him. They saw a little red man who asked the father if he had no better way of living. The man said "no". The little red man said that if he would give him the boy he would give the father money. They made the bargain. The man took the money and left the boy. He then went home and hid the money outside. His wife asked him where he had left the boy. He said that his cousin took him for a week. Everyday he went to pull heather he took a boy with him. He gave all his sons away for gold. He thought he would see the boys again and he went as usual to pull heather but he met with a mistake for neither boys nor fairy were to be seen. He came home very sad and told his wife about what happened. He went out and took(continues on next page)
