  1. Stauls are made of white or pitchpine. When they first appear in the factory they are all straight lengths of timber. The bottom and the staves are assembled and bottom hoop put in place. A fire is then put in the bottom and the heat bends the wood to the required angle. The other hoops are then placed and the barrel is then completed.
