  1. (Also) At wakes long ago pipes and tobacco were distributed to people that were at the wake. Each person got a pipe and a certain amount of the tobacco. Another custom was to distribute snuff. One of the people present at the wake went around to each person with a plate of snuff and said to each person Take a little, take a little but dont take too much.
