About 400 yards from the school house on the main road to Portrane there is a field to the right and in this field there were three trees standing close to each other in the shape of a cross. When funerals from Donabate to Portrane and from Portrane to Donabate were passing on their way to burial ground they stopped at these trees, knelt down, and prayed for the dead.
One of these trees can be seen but the other two are gone out. The place is known as the cross of Ballamastone
