  1. There is only one forge in the parish of Partry- Mohan’s forge - bu there are several in my district namely, Walshs, O’Malleys, Vaughans, and Murphys. It is only about ten years ago since Walshs got a forge but the others had always one and their grandfathers before them. The forges are all slated except Walshs. The doors are very large and there are always three windows in a forge.
    The smiths shoe horses and asses. He also makes ploughs, spades shovels, staples, and covers for stoves. The smith’s forge is a great place for telling stories and when the black smith is shoeing a horse he always whistles the black smiths tune.
