If the smoke goes up straight from the chimney in the morning that day will rain.
If the smoke goes up straight from the chimney in the evening it's a sign of good weather.

If the cat scrapes a piece of timber, it's a sign of rain, and whatever side he is turned to when he is scraping that is the side the storm will come from.
