My rent, poor rates and taxes
I was willing to pay
I made my den
In prime good land
Between Tipperary and Athlone,
Where my forefathers lived
One thousand years ago.But now of late
I have got my trade
From one who was a fool or knave
He told me I should quit the place
And show my face no moreAs soon as he ejected me,
I thought it was full time to flee,
I murdered all his ducks and geese,
His ganders and his drakes.
I knew I could no longer stand,
Because he had the hounds at hand
