  1. At Assbridge is the only place that people remember of fairs being held in this district in former times. In the year eighteen hundred and fifty-eight at a fair held in Assbridge a clan-fight arose, and a clann named Munnellys won the fight, and from that day to this the name "Munnelly's Hill" has been the name given to the hill.
    Nowadays the fairs are held in the towns of Newport, Westport, and Castlebar. The biggest fairs held in Westport are those held on November Day, and New Year's Day. The
