  1. Long ago the old people had a lot of cures for diseases. My mother told me that if a cow, or any beast is swollen the best cure is to get a briar, with the two ends of it growing in the ground, and to put it across her back, and put three knots on it, saying in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.
    The cure for a toothache is to put a coal up to your jaw, and it will kill the pain, another cure is to put a frog into your mouth. If you had a swollen jaw get some chicken weed, and put it on the tongs, and heat it. Then put it between your two hands, and clap it to your jaw. It will
