  1. 43. Our Local Saint.

St. Dominic is the local saint of the parish of Burrishoole, Newport, Co. Mayo.
He is commemorated at the present day. There is a holy well called St. Dominick's Well, about a mile north-west from Newport, and there is a pilgrimage to this well every year - usually during the month of August - especially on the feast.
The feast of St. Dominic is on the 4th August every year, and a pattern is held on his feast day.
Crowds from parish attend this pattern; sports are held, running, jumping etc. These sports and games are held close to the graveyard of the remains of the old Dominican Abbey
