  2. The following poem composed about Achill about 60 years ago by Rev. A. H. Knapp, M.A. Oxford University appeared in the "Mayo News" issue 4.1.1930. It had almost been forgotten but was resurrected by the late Sean McCraith of Dublin who got the complete copy from Anthony Lavelle (Ned) Keel, Achill.

    Achill, land of moor and mountain,
    Queen of islands, bold and free,
    Silvered o'er with lake and fountain
    Rushing on to kiss the sea.
