  1. There are four fairs in Carndonagh every year on the twenty first of the following months - February, May, August, November.
The fairs are held in a field outside the town. Cattle, sheep, goats and pigs are sold and bought in this field. The horses are sold on the street called the New Road leading from the chapel to Bridge Street.
Delph and clothes and many other things are sold on the main streets.
When a man is selling an animal he makes a bargain with the buyer. If the buyer is pleased with this bargain he spits on his own hand and then strikes the seller's hand. When the animal is sold the seller gives the buyer a few shillings back. This money is locally called "luck money".
After a man buys a cow or calf he puts some colour of paint on its back. If he did not do this he would not know his own animal. I do not think there were any fairs here long ago that are now discontinued.
