    extinct and the bell passed to their nephew called Charles Doherty of Glack Culdaff. He was offered £30 for bell about forty years ago but would not sell it. He died a bachelor about 35 years ago. The bell passed to his nephew William Doherty of Cashel about one quarter mile from this school. William Doherty before he died gave the bell to the Parish Priest of Culdaff - Rev Peter Tracy and it is in the safe of the Church. It is about the size of an ordinary zinc bucket.
    It was said that the keeper of the bell never died in his own house and that family keeping it would become extinct. Well Charlie Doherty died away from home. William Doherty of Cashel died also away from home and William's brother James who was older than William and should have been the keeper died also away from home. The nearest relatives now are the two boys - Doherty of the Hotel Carndonagh. Henry Morris when around as organizer and Inspector did his utmost to have the bell sent to the Museum in Dublin for safety but it is safe enough in St. Mary's Church safe Culdaff now.
