  1. One time in this parish there was a man called McLaughlin. He played cards every night for money and he lost a lot.
    One night when he was coming from playing cards he saw a man sitting on a stone ditch. When he came close to the man he bid him "Good night." The devil said, "will you play a game of cards." McLaughlin said he would. The devil put down half a crown and McLaughlin put down another. But the devil won the game and lifted the five shillings. McLaughlin noticed one of his feet was queer looking, and he got afraid
