  1. Once upon a time in the parish of Malin, there lived a man and his wife and three children. Every night there came seven men in to play cards; they always played with the joker. There was never one more than seven.
    One night when they were playing cards a terrible noise arose and the table and chairs began to dance on the floor. They were afraid so the seven men went out and the noise followed them, and it left the house.
    When they were about thirty yards from the house they saw a wee man sitting at the side of the road dressed in black. They turned and went back to the house but the
