    the guards.
When he went away for the guards he had left the box of watches on the counter. So the thief lifted the box of watches off the counter.
Later on the two thieves met at some corner. The second thief said that he had the whole box of watches while the other thief had only two or three. So the old thief said that he had his trade without learning it. But the shop boy never found the thieves again.
