  1. Hallow-eve falls on the last night of October. Several tricks were played on this night. When night fell the people ate mashed potatoes. They all gathered round the fire and began to eat nuts and apples. They put two nuts beside the fire one of them in the name of a girl and the other in the name of a boy. If they were not going to get married one leaps
