  1. Long ago the blacksmith's were not as hard to please as they are now. Some of the men would pay that had the money but other poor men that had none would pay them in a different way. Some of them would plough, harrow or sow or cut corn for them. Others would spread and put manure for him. Others would take him a load of turf for doing any important job such as shoeing wheels.
