When spinning had to be done a crowd of girls and women got together in the house where the wool was and spun all day.

When spinning had to be done a crowd of girls and women got together in the house where the wool was, and spun all day. This was called a spinning-party. That night there was a dance given in that house when all the spinning was finished. There were hand looms in almost every house at that time and cloth was made from the thread spun. This cloth was very good and would last for twenty years or perhaps more. Sheets and skirts and petticoats were made.
