  1. Long ago, in country districts, the young people played tricks on Hallow Eve night.
    One of these tricks was called, Cabbage Stalks. Some boys would scrape the inside out of the stalk of a cabbage. They would then stick the end of it under a door and place in it some burning coals. These would smoulder and fill the house with smoke. The guilty boys would run away and the people of the house would think the house was on fire.
