  1. An Old Custom.
    Years ago in Moville, many old customs were practised. Here is one.
    Long ago when a woman was going out and leaving her baby in its cradle, she would, before going out, place the tongs across the bottom of the cradle. She would do this to prevent the fairies interfering with her baby in her absence. People were long ago afraid of the fairies. The people believed that, when fairies saw the tongs, they got frightened and went away.

  2. A Fairy Tale of Moville.
    Gleneely is a townland about 3 miles from Moville. About sixty years ago, there lived a man in this Townland of Gleneely. He was a farmer.
    One day he went to dig potatoes and his children went out to gather them. When the children were finished gathering the potatoes, he sent them home.
