    played with a hockey stick and a round piece of wood called a "nagg" used instead of a ball.
    Football, Throwing the shoulder stone, Lifting the weight, long jump, high jump, and flat races comprised most of the other games played.
    Throwing the shoulder stone and lifting the weight was a favourite pastime of some of the stronger men of the district.
    Football wasn't carried on with so great enthusiasm as it is nowadays, but it afforded pastime to those who weren't interested in any of the other games. If any one side was beaten they took it in a friendly manner and quarrels or fighting very seldom occurred. At these games prizes were awarded to the winners at certain times of the year.
