  1. Old Houses.
The houses of today, differ very much from the houses of fifty, or a hundred years ago.
For instance the farm-houses of today have at least three rooms, whereas the house that I live in, which is one of the old type, has only a living room or kitchen, and another room that serves for all purposes, such as sleeping, dressing, and so-forth.
There are two fireplaces in the house, one in each end. The kitchen fireplace is in the centre of the western gable, and is what is called an "open fire-place".
Beds of different kinds, which have different names, are to be found in all the old houses.
