    (11)
    "Mercy" cried Squire Staples, "Shane Crossagh let me live,
    And for the boon a thousand pounds in yellow gold I'll give",
    "Then send your arms ye're sin," says Shane, and singly come to me;
    For I must bind your yoemen all, each man unto a tree.
    (12)
    They are bound, and Squire Staples now finds that in the glen,
    The outlaws force consisted of seven gallant men,
    Of seven gallant men, boys, of seven gallant men;
    Then in despair he tore his hair and wept for very shame.
    (century old)
    by Francis Toland, I certify that this, one of the many of S. Crossaghs ballads was taken from "the finest collection of Ballads and Folk Poems." A very vivid story can be recalled.
