  1. The Almighty God seeing we are uncertain going to bed this night, whether we shall rise from thence, give us the grace never to banish the thoughts of death out of our hearts. That we may not commit mortal sin during this life or even venial with deliberation.
    The Almight God crucified bless me, O Lord! defend and govern me, and after this short and miserable pilgrimage bring me to everlasting life. God the Father bless me. Jesus Christ defend and keep me, the virtue of the Holy Ghost enlighten and sanctify me, into Thy hands I commend my spirit, Lord Jesus receive my soul.
    O my good angel, whom God has appointed to be my guardian, enlighten and protect me, direct and govern me this night. Amen.
