  1. One stormy night a stranger called Tom Murphy was journeying along the road near Carrick outside Carndonagh. It was a wild night of thunder, lightening and hail. Tom was afraid when he heard the bushes rustling and he turned round to see what it was. Then all of a sudden a small, red coated man jumped out on the roadside. "What do you want"? asked Tom. "You"! was the reply. Tom thought that there was a trap laid for him, as he was a very rich man, and he leapt towards the red-coated man.
    The little fellow jumped sideways and as Tom staggered he gave him a blow that left him unconscious. When he recovered consciousness he lay on a bed in a strange room, and bending over him was a wicked-looking fairy king.
