  1. My mother usually makes pancakes on the day before Ash Wednesday. They are made much the same as ordinary bread only that sweet milk is added to it instead of butter milk, she then puts it out on the bake board and makes cakes of it and puts it in the oven on the fire and puts the lid on the oven and puts coals on the lid.
