    The church at Cockhill is not built on the site where the foundation stone was first laid.

    Suddenly three little girls appeared-dressed in white with the capes of their frocks pulled over their heads. Immediately a great crash was heard near the spot. It seemed as though a cart load of stones had been emptied down at that place. The strange little girls disappeared, and the three that had been lost came out jumping from the trees.
    The two little girls who had been searching for them reproached them for playing tricks on them.
    The five played together for some time and went home. These strange girls were supposed to be angels, and St Mary's church was built at this place.
