    all she was worth. The girl began to shout, and cry piteously for she thought that her mother had gone mad, as she had never got a hammering before.
    The king's son was passing, and he came in to see who was being murdered. "What is wrong here", said he. "Ah" says the old woman "this girl of mine is killing herself working and she will not stop for me."
    The young Prince said he could take her for to see if she would please the queen and if she did that he would make her his wife.
    The widow consented and off the two young people started to-gether. The queen put the girl into a lonely room and left her to card wool all day.
    The poor girl did not know that to do, so she started to cry. After some time a knock came to the door, and who came in but the woman with a great big hands. She said "Ill card the for you if you'll ask me to your wedding" "Surely" said the poor lonely girls and in a hundred wel-comes.
