    1
    On the twenty-ninth of November
    In the year of seventy-five,
When first I took a notion
All for to get a wife
    Fortune was unkind to me,
And then I got my fill,
When I saw that humped hippocrite
    That serves on Jolly Hill.
    2
Whenever I go to bed at night,
My heart it is very sore.
And when I rise in the morning,
I am grieved ten times more,
All for to wake that serpent,
    Out of her wearied bed.
To give her time to make the porridge and comb her head.
    3
When she goes to measure the milk,
Well - in (th) troth it is a sin,
She'll "howl" the measure to one side,
While all the milk teams in
The man that wants a dairy - maid
    To measure milk with skill
He can go for that humped hippocrite
    That serves on Jolly Hill.
