    Twas on a dewy summer's night, it hounds my recollection still

    He says there stands before you now
    The hoared cliff that drank his blood
    His head was taken as a prize
    His body buried where he died
    He had been living in a cave
    His sister from the village went
    Each morn my stealth and brought
    him kindly nourishment

    The soldiers sought him everywhere
    There was a price upon his head
    And soon by means of money
    They were to his dwelling led
    His sister's husband led them
    From Buncrana in the early gloom
    The holy priest he saw them come
    But how could he escape his doom.

    Across broad Swilly's wave to swim
    To stand and non would injure him
    He stood and soon before them reeled
