James and Mary McLoughlin used to live in a small thatched house near the green.

    (continued from previous page)
he was away on a foolish errand. The old woman asked her why was that. Mary told her about the cows dying and that James was away buying another one.
Then the old woman told her that there was only one thing to keep their cows from dying and that was to take away the byre from the green because the water from the sink in the byre was putting out her fire. The old woman then went outside the door and disappeared.
When James came home Mary told him all the old woman had said so James decided the best thing to do would be to tumble the byre and build it somewhere else. He did this and after that he had the best of luck with his cows.
