    I lately thought of sailing
    To a far off distant Shore
    To leave my aged parents.
    I might never see more
    The day I left my dear old cot.
    I bitterly did cry.
    My friends the all assembled round
    For to bid me god bye.

    I said I would come back again
    To my dear old little cot.
    I would dance once amongst the girls
    In the dear old Meentigh hut.
    The day I left the Shandrum Halt.
    My heart was grieved full sore.
    I parted there with many nice girls
    I might never see more.
