Local Song
“It was in the month of August”
It was in the month of August
as you shall quickly hear.
The Mary and her gallant crew
to Rathmullen town did steer.
The weather it been stormy, the wind it turned blue.
But undaunted went the Mary
as she bore her Gallont crew
She was pulled by Edward
Gallagher who was one of the crew
Also by John Doherty and brave James Hangan too.
She was pulled by Tommy Hegarty
who was a boatman brave.
And William took the helm
to steer her over the wave.
And brave James Brown among the rest.
I honour him in my song.

and cheered them all along.(continues on next page)- Collector
