  1. In very ancient times people only had one substantial meals in the day. In later times it was usual to have three meals in the day. they were the breakfast, the dinner and the supper. In those days people rose at seven o'clock and dressed. Then they went to work for two hours. At eight o'clock they had the morning meal consisting, usually, of boiled porridge and a bowl of buttermilk. they had a good supply of this. Work was resumed then until about twelve o'clock when they all came in to the house for the mid-day meal. this was eaten in the kitchen As a rule there was a large three-legged pot full up of boiled potatoes, sitting in the middle of the floor. All gathered round the pot-with a spoon each, and some salt on the end of the stove and a bowl of buttermilk on the other side of them. This was the biggest meal of the day. then they did not have another meal until work was finished in the evening at six o'clock. this last meal was something similar to the morning meal.
