    Fate of war had seen him wounded,
    On the field of battle strive,
    Tender care had nursed him safely,
    Back into dear and precious life,
    And he's homeward bound for Ireland,
    To the one he loved so dear,
    While in deck the breezes whisper,
    Words of comfort and cheer.
