- There are some old houses yet in the district. The people thatched them. They usually kept the bed in the kitchen. The fire-place was always kept at the gable-wall. The front of the chimney was usually plastered with mortar. Some of the old houses had no glass in the windows. The floor was made out of timber. In others there was just a mud floor.
